CIBC Internal Pilot: 2022-2023

The objective of the project is to give interact e-transfer users the ability to send and receive e-transfers through a QR code linked to their autodepsoit e-transfer credentials.


Statement question

How might we give CIBC interact e-transfer users the ability to send and receive e-transfer through a QR code linked to their Autodeposit e-transfer credentials.

FLOW 1:

Activating QR Codes payments

CIBC has released a new feature “Scan or show QR Code”, Out of curiosity the user clicks into feature and is presented with (one-time) onboarding screens that clarify’s what the feature is and how it works.


FLOW 2:

Generating a QR Code

User has now activated their QR code. Their friend owe’s them money for coffee, they generate a QR with a specific amount for a money request. They then present the QR to their friend to scan.


FLOW 1:

Sending a payment

The friend opens the CIBC app and scans the QR Code, they’re brought to an auto-filled screen with the payment amount and details. They send the payment and share the confirmation that the payment has been made to their friend.

86% of users were comfortable using QR Payments after participating in this pilot

85% of codes scanned were new contacts, further demonstrating that the feature is very effective in making the e-transfer experience easier

87% of users would recommend the QR Payments feature to a friend or colleague
